RESUMEN

Economic, clinical and social impact of simple limbal epithelial transplantation for limbal stem cell deficiency (see page 923) A comprehensive literature survey, questionnaire-based survey and economic analysis indicates that simple limbal epithelial transplantation is a better alternative to cultivated limbal epithelial transplantation in terms of anatomical success, cost and accessibility. Association between body mass index and diabetic retinopathy in Asians: the Asian eye epidemiology Consortium (AEEC) study (see page 980) In a pooled analysis including 10 010 Asian adults with diabetes from 12 cross-sectional studies across six Asian countries, obesity was inversely associated with both any diabetic retinopathy and vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy, independent of potential risk factors. Efficacy of a novel personalised aflibercept monotherapy regimen based on polypoidal lesion closure in participants with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (see page 987) We report the results of a novel personalised anti-vascular endothelial growth factor monotherapy regimen for the management of polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy which achieves comparable outcomes to a fixed 8-weekly regimen and high polypoidal lesion closure rate.

RESUMEN

Poor preoperative visual acuity and young age were risk factors for surgical failure Clinical profile and outcome of early surgery in neonatal-onset glaucoma presenting over a 5-year period (see page 368) Fifty-three neonatal-onset glaucoma infants (94 eyes) who underwent early surgery were studied. 66% had primary congenital glaucoma;45.7% required additional surgery. 28.3% had good vision (LogMAR >0.4) and 34.7% had moderate impairment (LogMAR 0.5–1.0). Convolutional neural network to identify symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease using multimodal retinal imaging (see page 388) A convolutional neural network using multimodal retinal images (optical coherence tomography (OCT), OCT angiography, and ultra-widefield scanning laser ophthalmoscopy) and patient data inputs was created to distinguish individuals with Alzheimer’s disease from cognitively healthy adults. Microvascular abnormalities and long-term efficacy after stereotactic radiotherapy under continued intravitreal anti-VEGF treatment for neovascular AMD (see page 415) Besides an association with reduced need for ranibizumab/aflibercept treatment through years 2 and 3 after low-energy stereotactic radiotherapy in neovascular age-related macular degeneration, we observed a visual acuity reduction and high numbers of microvascular abnormalities.

RESUMEN

Determinants of corneal endothelial cell loss after sulcus placement of Ahmed and Baerveldt drainage device surgery (see page 925) A higher number of pre-valve surgery intraocular procedures and a higher presurgical IOP were significant risk factors for a postsurgical decrease in corneal endothelial cell density following sulcus placement with an Ahmed or Baerveldt drainage device. Diagnostic validity of optic nerve head colorimetric assessment and optical coherence tomography angiography in patients with glaucoma (see page 957) Colorimetric evaluation of optic nerve head haemoglobin on retinal photographs, by the Laguna ONhE programme, and optical coherence tomography angiography had similar diagnostic validity in open-angle glaucoma patients. Evaluation of the clinical utility of optical coherence tomography angiography in age-related macular degeneration (see page 983) We performed this study to understand the utility of OCTA in identifying choroidal neovascularisation in patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and to investigate whether OCTA could help determine disease activity in these patients.

RESUMEN

Correspondence to Prof Frank Larkin, Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, London EC1V 2PD, UK;f.larkin@ucl.ac.uk Long-term follow-up of cystinosis patients treated with 0.55% cysteamine hydrochloride (see page 608 ) Results from the French ATU cohort to confirm the safety, efficacy and tolerability in real-world clinical practice of a 0.55% cysteamine hydrochloride ophthalmic solution for cystinosis are presented. Late term topical tacrolimus for subepithelial infiltrates resistant to topical steroids and cyclosporine secondary to adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis (see page 614 ) Topical tacrolimus 0.03% ointment might show efficacy for the late term treatment of the discomfort symptoms and visual acuity problems related to the subepithelial infiltrates secondary to adenoviral keratoconjunctivitis even 2 years after onset. 15-year incidence rate and risk factors for pterygium in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh (see page 619 ) The 15 year incidence rate of pterygium among people aged 30 years and above in the longitudinal Andhra Pradesh Eye Disease Study (APEDS III) rural cohort was 25.2 per 100 person-years. Impact of myopia on the association of long-term intraocular pressure fluctuation with the rate of progression in normal-tension glaucoma (see page 653 ) Long-term intraocular pressure fluctuation was related to faster visual field deterioration only in myopic normal-tension glaucoma (NTG) eyes, not in non-myopic NTG eyes Use of a novel telemetric sensor to study interactions of intraocular pressure and ganglion cell function in glaucoma (see page 661 ) We demonstrate the feasibility of simultaneous continual telemetric measurements of intraocular pressure (IOP) and steady-state pattern electroretinography and report increased IOP and reduced ganglion cell responses for the lower eye during lateral position.
